Business Valuation by Sector

Independent business valuation · By sector

What Is Your Business Worth to a Buyer in Your Sector?

Owners usually find out what their business is worth from the first person who wants to buy it. An independent valuation gives you the number first, built from your own accounts and the things buyers in your sector actually pay for.

Each page below sets out what drives value in that sector, what pulls it down, and where the accounts mislead. Every valuation is carried out by Mark Ross Roberts FMVA CBCA at a fixed fee, delivered in 2 working days.

Frequently asked questions

I've had an offer for my business. How do I know if it's fair?

Compare it with an independent valuation built from your own accounts, before you reply. The valuation shows what a buyer is likely to pay, how much of the headline reaches you after debt and working capital, and which parts of the offer are open to negotiation.

Why does the sector matter in a valuation?

Buyers in each sector look for different things and discount for different risks. A civils contractor is judged on work in progress and retentions, which a machining business never has to explain. A valuation that ignores what buyers in your sector check gives a number nobody will pay.

Is the valuation independent?

Yes. The fee is fixed and agreed before work starts, and it is the same whatever the number. The report is yours to show anyone, and you are under no obligation to instruct us for anything else.

What does it cost?

Independent valuations cost £1,200, £2,000 or £3,000 excluding VAT, by annual turnover from £500k to £30m. Larger businesses are scoped on the free discovery call. Delivery is 2 working days.
